Hello- I have been working on this engine over the last few months which I was told had not been used for 20 years or so. I got it running fine but a few weeks back I had it up at the lake and was running it a full throttle when it suddenly stopped. Now I cannot get it going again and have no spark.
What's up....how can I tell if it is the coil, condenser points etc. or do I replace all?
Pull the flywheel. See if the flywheel key is broken. If not, clean and gap the point .020") and see if it sparks again. If the points' contacts are burnt, replace them and the condensor too. If the contacts are covered in oil, look at the top main crankshaft seal (if it's got one). If that all checks out, make sure the ignition coil's insulation is not cracked. But I think that's least likely the problem here.
I think the flywheel nut torque on that one is 20-25 ft/lbs.
