2001 Evinrude 70 hp 4-stroke won't stay in reverse
We have a 2001 Evinrude 70 hp 4-stroke engine that we can not get to stay in reverse under load. The engine runs good but will not stay in reverse. We have tried all adjustments we can without going into the lower unit. We don't have a manual or much expertise with this engine. Has anyone run into this problem? We suspect we will need to drop the lower unit, but I am cautious without a manual. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

My Johnson does not stay in rev either. Its a much lower HP but i think the principle are the same. I've open the lower unit and saw that the clutch dog reverse teeth are all threadbare. Clutch dog is about a hundred boxs for my motor,

That engine is a repainted Suzuki 4-stroke. Try to browse the Suzuki forum for similar problem. If remembering right, the re-building/assembly of the gearbox, particularly the shimming part is quite different from the OMC/BRP gearboxes. be sure you get the correct manual, either OMC/BRP or Suzuki.
