    Default 2000 Javelin 18F/S Venom w/ Johnson 115 2 stroke

    Got a question for some seasoned boaters. This was my first boat purchased last week. I took it out to the lake and pulled away from the dock an excited man. I trimmed the motor all the way down and dropped the throttle about halfway. As the boat began planing out It started hopping up and down. I believe you call this porposing. I backed off the throttle and trimmed the motor slightly up. I tried again... this time as the boat started planing it started leaning to the left, so drastically that it felt like it was going to flip over! I backed off again. This time I trimmed the motor to a little below midway. I dropped the throttle again and it planed out and ran almost normal, with the exception of a port lean. I thought weight distribution but that wasn't it. then i thought the motor needed to be trimmed up some more but it was almost midway and i didn't think it should go any higher. Any help would be greatly appreciated. It's a 2000 Javelin 18F/S Venom with a Johnson 2 stroke 115. The motor does have a hydrofoil fin on it

    How high above the bottom of the boat is the A/V plate?

    Have you tried running without the fins?

    The A/V plate (and the hydrofoil) should be just above the water and parallel with the water when on plane.

    Have you adjusted the trim tab?

    Measure from the top outer edge of the transom to the skeg from each side of the boat - are they equal?
