Default 2000 115 Johnson 2 stroke bucks at higher rpm

Last week while pulling tubers it felt like we hit something. I checked and we were in 20 ft of water, then it kept happening at higher rpm. Could this be the clutch dog coming out of gear? Engine revs up fine in neutreal. No bang or hick up. Thanks

Could be a myriad of issues. It's best to start at the top, run all the basics, and start to narrow it down.

I'm new to boats, but very have been wrenching for 25yrs on jeeps etc. I have read the repair
manual and it is no help in giving me a place to start, if not in the lower unit. Runs great without
load on motor. Any suggestions would be welcome.
