1999 Evinrude 70 HP 4 Stroke- Squeeling Bearing Sound at Idle
I have just bought a used boat w/ an Evinrude 1999 70 HP 4 stroke motor (w/ 325 hours) that has a detectable "squeeling bearing" or "loose fan belt" noise at idle.
First thing that came to mind (because of my lack of experience with this outboard) is the timing belt because it sounded like a loose fan belt. Since the belt is a cogged design, I ruled that out. But in looking at the belt tensioner, I could picture the belt tensioner bearing being the cause.
Does the bearing require periodic oiling? I would've thought it'd be a sealed. Either that or this one is shot.
Bought a BRP service manual and I've never been so disappointed!! I won't get any helpful info out of it!!
Has anybody experienced a condition like this??
Thanks,
Kahuner

Reason: grammar

I've heard of it happening. The tensioner has a sealed brg and requires no lube. If you can catch it when it's doing it try a few drops of oil on to see if that shuts it up.
