Default 1998 225 Johnson Fuel Problem

    Hello all

OK, I think I found it. Motor has had symptoms of fuel problem - runs when squeezing bulb and then only a minute or so after. Already changed all filters and most hoses and the bulb. Found a loose 1/8 hose that T's off just 2 inches before the fuel (VRO) pump. The clamp is the spring type and rusted. Anyone have a good source for a diagram that shows all the fuel hose routings? This piece is just a total of 4 inches with a bend and goes to some rocker type moveable plastic part. Any one know what that is/does? Hopefully this is my problem and not the pump.....

(I am a newbie to this forum with a 240 Wellcraft Coastal and a Carver cruiser that is the family cottage this year)

    Thanks

    Bob

This is in fact a 1997 motor..

Apparantly that hose goes to a vacuum switch which is part of the alarm system and it was not my problem. I am left with repairing or replacing the VRO pump. There are kits to rebuild the fuel side (435921 and 436095) of the vro pump if yo have the poil disconnected which mine does. Has anyone done this? Any advice on repairing just the fuel side(about $90. parts) vs. replacing (about $400.) Has anyone done this? The motor has approx. 300 hrs.

    Thanks

Why not get an OEM shop manual and diagnosing what's wrong instead of WAG's?

Keep in mind that's not a VRO pump. When talking to parts guys they hear "VRO" and you may end up getting the wrong parts and / or advise.

If continually pumping the bulb keeps the motor going then yes, the OMS pump needs attention.
