1998 175 evinrude wiring help please

Im replacing my twin 1992 150 johnsons and putting on twin 1998 175 evinrudes.Everything went smooth until this wiring problem I have.Im no mechanic so excuse the definitions,The main harness (big round red plug) matcthes perfect,then theres a connector with 2 prongs that also matches perfect,now I have a round plug with 6 prongs on the boats harness(tha was connected to a similar plug that seems to be coming from trim silenoids on 1992 johnson) and the only remaining plug I have on the evinrude is triangular and has 5 prongs.I realize these details are really poor forgive me,but if anyone has a clue or can ask a specific question so i can look at it and answer that would be great. thank you

What color are the 5 evinrude wires? If tan, tan/orange, tan/yellow, tan/black, these wires for alarm sensors. The T&T connector on engine has 3 wires. Im looking at a 175 60 degree carbuator engine. I thought that you needed a wire harness adapter to connect 98 engine to 92 controls.

Thanks for the response clanton, I screwed it up,I went back to garage to take a good look, the 1998 evinrude has 3 wires going into the plug not 5 , they are tan/white green/white blue/white the plug from boat has 5 prongs tan/white green/white red/white black/tan blue/white . Maybe i do need a adapter,I just disconnected the 1992 harness from engine (2 square orange connectors one male one female ) and they fit onto the 1998 evinrudes 2 orange connectors .The only ones that dont match are the ones i described above, is that the adaptor you speaking of ? thanks sorry for confusion.

Did your control harness in boat have a large red connector to connect to engine? Im looking at diagram for 98 engine, and parts fich for a 1992 175. The orignal control harness to engine for 1992 175 had a large red connector, and the T&T harness with the 5 wire connector you have. I dont have a 92 manual, or I could send you wire diagram.

yes the harness from boat has a big red round connector ,the other half of thatred connector i installed on the square orange prongs coming from ebgine just like the 1992 had, the big red connection matched up perfectly to the 1998, all connections match up great except the 5 prong coming from boat harness dosnt match the 3 prong coming from the 1998 evinrude. Those are the only connections left,Im wondering why the 1992 has more wires than the 1998,and if this is what the adapter is for. thanks

The 98 diagram shows 2 different harnesses for the T&T, both have two of the square connectors on the engine. One has four wires red, blue, green, yellow the other red, purple, black. The second diagram has two engine connectors. One is red,green,blue, yellow. the other red purple. The red blue green yellow should go to T&T switch, the red purple black is for the guage. The adapter harness, adapted all of the connectors. I dont have diagram of the adapter.
