Default 1997 90 hp evinrude primer solenoid

My motor is a 1997 90hp evinrude. I was out today and the boat ran fine for about 20 minutes. When I went to recrank the engine, NOTHING. It would not even turn over. I thought that the battery may be dead, but the depth finder was working. When I got home I took the cover off the motor and tried to crank it. Agaon, NOTHING. I noticed that the primer solenoid had a crack in the plastic and when i turned the key, fuel would spurt out of the crack. I know absolutely nothing about engines. Is this a expensive problem? Would the crack in the primer solenoid keep the engine from turning over?

Hi CentaxmavHead on over to this site and you can find out how much the primer selonoids run. Should be around $60.00 or so.... Not hard to replace...You will need your model number to find the correct partishopmarine.com/ishop/jsp/AsplIsmHomeCcat.jsp?reqFor=29

Would the cracked primer solenoid cause the motor to not even turn over?

Check your cable connections at the battery and also the connections to the starter solenoid and starter motor. Also the ground connection fromt he -ve battery terminal to the powerhead. You probably have a bad connection there somewhere which is preventing the starter motor from getting enough current to operate.Could also be a bad battery. It takes a heck of a lot more current to operate a starter motor than it does to operate a depth sounder. Even a near dead battery should operate the depth sounder.
