Default 1997 225 HP Johnson starter solenoid question

When I turn the key I get a quick "zap" sound at the starter solenoid. Nothing to the starter.Could this be a bad solenoid or a wiring problem?I did a voltage drop test and seem to be getting voltage in all cases. Thanks for any assistance.Mike

mjrobbins If you are getting voltage to the starter side of the selonoid, it sounds as though the problem is with the starter. Try jumping directly to the starter terminal and see if it goes. If so, it may be a weak selonoid or corroded connections at the selonoid/starter. Make sure your battery is good and fully charged...

Check your ground. Remove and clean the negative battery terminal, from the engine block, and clean it thoroughly.
