Default 1996 150 HP Johnson Ocean Runner Loses Power

I have 1996 Johnson ocean runner and am troubleshooting fuel problem. My check engine light and alarm come on and the engine loses power. This happens intermittently. Check engine light and alarm when running indicates fuel restriction. I have found a leak around the primer solenoid and it was from a cracked red manual lever. This problem is apparently very common and the part and o rings are available to fix. I have removed the fuel bracket assembly (not all that hard) and then all the parts are easy to get to. Remove the 4 screws and lift off the top. Hold the top and pull on the lever. It is supposed to come out and will have 2 o rings on it. This has not solved my problem and I'm contemplating replacing the vro fuel pump..but it is over $300 dollars. If you pump up the primer bulb and it still lacks power it should eliminate the hoses and fuel tank. I am going to look in the float bowl and see what that looks like first. There is gas there though because when I push the choke the gas was pouring out the red lever.
I'll keep you posted on my progress.

Check the gasket and Oring on the fuel screen. Also chaek all fuel line connections. It is possible to have an air leak into the gas line, with no leakage of gas.

Spotman, I gave your the wrong approach to solve your problem. It is a good idea to make sure the fuel lines do not have air leaks, however your issue is caused by the vacuum sensor detecting a vacuum in the gasoline line.

Check the antisiphon valve in your fuel tank. You might remove it, if it looks suspect Also check all fuel filters and screens for cleanliness. Pumping the ball during the alarm will eventually help clear it, but the vapor seperator is downstream of the vacuum sensor, and it will restrict the fuel from entering the OMS Pump.

Chris, Thanks for the great info. I have considered removing the anti-siphon valve. I guess it should have no consequences unless a hose leaks. I have just read in a service manual the the vacuum sensor is before the vro pump. So the pump must be working to create the vacuum to trigger the sensor. You mention "the vapor separator is downstream from the pump and it will restrict the fuel from entering the pump" Can you explain why it would do that when you pump the ball?
Thanks again and hope your having a great day on the water!

fix your primer. if it is leaking when you pump the bulb. it is leaking all the time. could very easily be allowing extra fuel into the intake, and reducing pressure on the fuel line, causing the sensor to go sound. also a fire hazard.
