1995 Evinrude 25hp water pump

I am trying to change the water pump. I have the lower unit unbolted and dropped about 1/2 inch but I need to disconnect the shift linkage I think. Can someone tell me how to do this. It cant be hard but i dont want to mess up anything trying.

Did you get it? I did a 50hp of similar vintage not too long ago. It had a 1/4" - 3/8" nut holding the rod onto the linkage. I had to remove the starter to access it. Sorry you didn't get a more timely reply. The boards get flooded this time of year.

There should be an access panel on the side of the exhaust tower. open that up and you'll find see two screws. Undo the bottom one.
