1993 Johnson 150hp DIES at idle, runs great otherwise.

My 93 johnson will start and run great once you take it past idle, but when running at low rpm and iddle, it just shuts off. No problems starting it back up again, just idleing shuts it off. Any suggjestions???? I read that some of you dont like the tie wraps on the hoses, is this something that can be related or do i have another problem??????? Thanks.

Welcome to iboats.When was the last time the carbs were rebuilt? What about the gas, how old is it? Just a couple of things to think about.

I just flushed out all the old gas and changed the filter after this problem occured, and it is still doing the same thing. Do i need to give it some time to work itself out??? The gas in the lines did seem a little old. As far as the carb, i dont know when or if it has been rebuilt. Thanks for the reply, and keep them comming. I need to work this out.

It sounds like it may be time to rebuild the carbs. If you are going to do it yourself, I would use OMC carb kits. You also need to purchase a manual if you dont have one.

I am just suggesting the most probable cause, however there could be other problems. What about spark plugs? When was the last time you changed them, are the correct ones for your engine?

Plugs were changed today, with correct replacements, still no help.

What about the idle being set too low????? Would that be a cause???? And if so, how do i adjust it????

there is no adjustment 4 these carb sounds like time 4 rebuild save ur self the headaches n buy the omc kits knot the aftermarket 1'S . gl. ALSO CHECK ur fuel supply to the vapor seporator n screen.
