Re-started the engine after a needed fuel prime and a loud pop occurred without a crank of the motor. There was some smoke but not significant. The electrical system was completely dead - nothing with ignition. After checking all fuses, I found the wire to the starter very loose - tightened it and now have electrical response with key ignition - but only clicking/buzzing at the starter solenoid and the trim only clicks/buzzes at the trim relays. All dash and accessories are fine. The electric primer solenoid seems to be OK but seems to be louder than I remember.
I am trying to figure out if the starter solenoid, relays, both, or some other "main" electrical part is "blown" or shorted out??? Everything was fine on the initial start immediately before - except inadequate fuel to keep running.
Should I replace the starter solenoid, relays or both. Both batteries are fully charged.

I am not an expert, but I have been playing with outboards for a while....I've never considered some smoke not to be significant....
Step one would be to make sure that you have 12 V at the main solenoid terminal, then check the ignition terminal for 12V when key is turned to start position.
You'll need a "warm body" to operate the key.
BTW, you might want to remove the text from that duplicate post....or PM a mod and ask for it to be deleted.
OK, thanks - I will do those checks. It does seem like what one would get if the power (battery) isn't there but both batteries are up. Somewhere is a short or bad connection - just zappo......I guess??. Get back if any other ideas.
