1991, 70hp Johnson converted VRO to oil mixed fuel
I have a 1991, 70hp Johnson that has been converted from the VRO system to the oil mix in the gas system. I have been having trouble with the idling of my outboard and have read threads that On a regular oil mix gas system, that my fuel pump may be weak. The motor runs fine, just won't idle smooth. How do I order a fuel pump kit for this outboard or can I?

I have that same motor and I doubt it's the fuel pump making it idle bad. It's more than likely your carbs, they may need rebuilding or adjusted. Is your fuel pump still a vro pump or was it converted to a regular pump?

I will check and get back to you. The boat is actually my brothers, is at his home, but we fish together, every week and I am the one that drives it onto the trailer and I have to keep starting it over and over because it will not idle for any length of time.
Not being real savy to actually tell a VRO pump from a regular pump, how do I do that? Sorry for the ignorance.

I would check the compression first and try triming up as much as you can at the ramp, I had this touble on my 1975 70hp I had good compression but can't trim up at the ramp and she would stall at the trailer so I installed the dual stage Boyesen reeds, made it troll like a Eska
