1988 Johnson 120HP outboard water pump issue
When I start my engine, is water imdiately supposed to drip out the hose, or should it wait until the engine is warmed up, and the thermostat opens allowing water to flow through?
Thanks.

I believe it should always be pumping. The thermostat being closed just allows the water to bypass the block.

On your particular motor it will take a while, maybe 10 seconds, before it starts peeing.
