1988 48 SPL Bogs and dies at high throttle

My 48 hp stars mint, trolls at 2.1-3 mph perfect, however, 3/4+ throttle it bogs, and I mean BOGS and I cant keep it running after that... When it does fire back up it is smokey for a bit, then runs fine at idle and low speed again. Any suggestions? Thanks

When it does this squeeze the ball or have someone squeeze the fuel primer bulb at high rpm and see if your fuel pump is weak at higher RPM. It might be a bad fuel pump. The more knowledgeable folks on this forum can chime in and give you there opinion but I am thinking fuel pump or if that is not the problem try the choke by momentarily pushing it in to see if the motor picks back up and if it does then the high speed jet in the carbs are fouled/dirty and need to be cleaned out.

Thanks, I will give that a shot. It acts like it is flooding out but I suppose lacking fuel would act similar.

Check your spark. It will run on only one cylinder and die out rapidly when given throttle.

I second high speed jets. I have had luck with running seafoam in fuel but sounds like their clogged pretty good

Can someone tell me which is the high speed jet. I need to knw hhow to get em out and clean em. Thanks
