1.5 turns out after gently seating should get you started. I'm assuming your talking about the slow speed needle. Best of luck. Rick.

Joe Reeves' detailed instructions for adjusting the carb needles can be found on the "Engine Frequently Asked Questions" board.

Thanks, I've been there for my older engines but I wasn't sure if the newer engines have different procedures.

Yeah, last year I updated twenty-three years. Someone asked me how long an outboard lasts. I didn't think twice and told them Evinrudes last...forever.

It indicates that those procedures apply to 1980 and earlier motors. Is it different for this 1987?

According to the parts breakdown you have a low speed needle valve. 1 1/2 turn out is a static starting point with a final adjustment made in the water.

About midyear of 1987 the carburetors had plastic tops. At this time they used finer threads on the needle jet. I have found that for my 93, I start at 4 turns out & settled on 4 5/8.
