Hi I have an 87 Johnson VRO 140 and which runs great but an alarm in the control box has been going off lately when I first start the motor and will sound between 30 sec and 5 minutes before shutting off. Once the alarm shuts off it stays off for the remainder of the day. There is lots of oil in the pump and there is no question the engine is getting oil. I think it might either be a low oil alarm or maybe an over heating alarm. The sound is long steady and drawn out. Any ideas? -Matt
First of all if you have not read the article at the attached link please do so. You'll find it interesting and informative. And you'll also find out how the thing works.
It will give you some ideas of things to check. Oil filter in oil tank, air leaks in the lines, etc.
I'll add one more thing, when mine went bad, I replaced it with a non-vro fuel pump for two reasons. One, I didn't want to spend another $300 or so and 2nd after spending $800-$1000 on a re-build I told myself I didn't want to take any chances. Mixing isn't so bad yet, maybe I'll change my mind some day.
