Default 1985 55 Johnson throttle response

When moving through the range of throttle to accelerate, at about mid point the motor goes to nearly WOT. Is this related to a linkage adjustment? The motor was recently swapped from one boat to another and all cables were disconnected. This motor did not do this on the other boat. We were careful to reconnect everything in the former positions.Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Greg
