1985 25hp Evinrude, no spark at all

Today, 9/16/04, I attempted to crank and run my Motor. It has not been cranked for two months. The last time that I ran it, (Not on a boat, but with muffs and a waterhose), the engine did not appear quite as responsive as the time before, but I put that down as maybe old gas. Today, with fresh gasoline, it would not crank at all. At first I thought it was flooded, as I smelled excessive gasoline odor. Pulled the plugs, disconnected the fuel line, and spun the motor over, and cleaned the plugs. Thought I would check the spark using a screwdriver in the plug wire with the screwdriver held near the block, but no spark on either wire. The gear lever is definitely in neutral. no safty lanyard or ignition key on this model.Any suggestions?

Tried the web site, but for the life of me, I could not bring it up. I could get the website, but not the trouble shooting link. I must be doing something wrong.

David... Remove the Black/Yellow wire for the plug leading to the powerpack. If you now have spark, in all probability the kill switch button is shorted out or that wire itself is shorted out at some point.If you still have no spark, the usual cause is a faulty powerpack.
