1984 Johnson 90 hp Starter trouble?

I have a 1984 Johnson 90hp, sometimes when I go to start it it will just give a click and the starter wont engauge or anything.Sometimes it will just do it once when im tryin to start it and sometimes it might do it 5 or 6 times before it will turn over.Then when it turns over it make a low pitch whine sound..I have checked my battery and it is good and charged checked all my connections and they appear to be clean and tight. I guess what I am asking is the starter going bad or is there a solienoid somewhere that could be the culprit? Thank you for all your help.

The clicking noise is coming from the solenoid, the whine could most likely be coming from the starter.This link from the FAQ section has some good info for troubleshooting the problem, you should be able to narrow down the culprit at any rate. http://forums.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb...;f=36;t=000001
