    Exclamation 1981 70 HP Evinrude

I have searched and read through all these forums trying to find answers about my motor just cant find any good answers. When I bought my boat the motor had sat for a couple years, I checked everything out put fresh gas in it started after 2 turns of the key. First time out on the lake it just didnt have full power. I did carb job on all three carbs, installed new plugs still no difference checked compression it seems to be alright from what all i have read. The motor will idle throttle up but when I put it in gear it is sluggish and just seems to not be getting full power... I did a spark test #2 cylinder is sparking excellent 1 and 3 cylinders arent sparking at all I changed coil pack still no change. Next I pulled the fly wheel the stator ohms out correctly the wiring seems to be good. I have a power pack on order hoping that might be it but if not I need to know what other things I could check.. Any help would be awesome!! Thanks

Try the power pack when you get it and get back to us. An OMC Factory service manual would also help.

Ok will do. I was just hesitant to change the power pack because I have always heard that if the power pack is bad nothing will spark so i was leaning more towards the timer base but I’ve read a lot that those rarely go bad. So there was really nothing else but the power pack. So it is possible the power pack can cause just certain cylinders to spark and others not to?

your first purchase should be a GENUINE manual, it will save you money in the long run, power packs on those are a bit sus, but they usually just die, or go intermittant, but you never know, one hint, do NOT start pulling things to bits and buying bags of parts, you will end up with an empty wallet and possibly more faults to chase.

My first "guess" would still be a power pack. That is without having a manual and the proper test equipment.

Well the power pack did it. Got excellent spark on all cylinders took it out today now I only have one carb sucking. So it was bogged down. When I put the carb kits in about a year ago i had all three sucking good but back then I was playing with the screws in the top of each carb i don't know if those need to be re adjusted or if I just have trash in my carb and I need to rebuild them again or if I just can take them Off and clean them real good.
