Hello all, I am having some trouble trying to figure out the wiring for my 1980 15 hp electric start evinrude. This motor was given to me off of a pontoon boat. The wires were all cut before I got the motor. There are many splices, not sure of the original wire colors. I have the key switch and kill button. I wired it the best I could and it started and ran and the kill button stopped the motor. However, I took it out on the river it ran great for half and hour and then it gradually lost power until it finally died. It would not restart, the battery was dead. It was fully charged when I started with nothing using battery power. I think I have it wired so that the battery is supplying the power for spark. Does anyone know where I can get a hold of a wiring diagram. Thanks Jake.
I think your best bet would to get an OEM manual for your motor. It will have all the wiring in it, and it will help your with other repairs.
Ken Cook sells them, best money you can spend.
Your playing with fire guessing at the wire sequence. You can fry parts that way. bktheking will help you for sure. Do you think it might have over heated? Was your gas vent open? Best of luck. Rick.
