    Default 1979 evinrude 55 video . leaking lower end



    should this amount of water concern me coming from the LE .. the LE is tight the water is just coming out of a small gap I assume ..also if you notice there is a hole at the very back that water is shooting from ...

    I've not seen that much water coming from the lu/midsection parting line before. Did you tighten the bolts?

    the bolts seem to be tight the local mechanic worked on it

    just went out and confirmed the bolts are tight .. question- can I loosen the bolts slightly and use some gasket maker then tighten them back up without risking throwing any linkages outta wack?

    The mating surfaces have been really beaten up or are severely corroded. A tight seal isn't needed, but leakage like you have will result is more metal erosion.

    planning on picking up some gasket maker tonight.. question tho just in case i have to mess w the shift rod whats the right height. i saw this measurment on the forum (1977-81 - 50 and 55 manual start model in neutral (S) 16-23/32” (L) 21-23/32”) i have an electric start does that matter?

    let it run about 15 mins and could hold my hand on the motor for 10 seconds so I think its cooling ok
