1979 15hp evinrude tell tale fitting

i broke the 90 degree plastic tell tale fitting on my motor while trying to take it off so i can unclog it. i broke the barb off while turning it....is there anyway to take this off and put a new one on without taking off the whole head? there is hardly any clearance between it and the cowling.

this is a little hokey, but you could try and drill and tap the broken bit of the elbow for a new straight plastic fitting. Might be worth a shot before you remove the head. Got nuthin' to loose by trying.

Could you unscrew it to see if it has room to come out? Be a shame to take the head off to replace a 50 cent part.

Looking at it again w/ the above advise, there should be enough room. Those things aren't all that long.
