Default 1977 Johnson 115 V4 85 hp Spark Plug Wires

Hi, I finally bought my first boat and as I was changing the spark plugs on the motor I found out that one of the spark plug wire was corroded and the coil inside the wire broke. Can I just pick a universal spark plug wire from any auto part store or is there a particular spark plug wire for this motor?

Also, I noticed the starter spring is worn out and the starter gear would sometimes get stuck to the flywheel when I start. So I tried to loosen the bolt to change the spring, but there's no way of doing it because the shaft keeps turning as I turned the bolt. Is is possible to change the spring or is it time to pick up a new starter?

You must use solid core spark plug wires, not automobile. Racing and bike shops may have some good ones, but you will be better off to use the OEM wires.

The secret to the starter pinion is that it needs to be spotlessly clean. Use WD40 or similar to clean the shaft, spring etc., being careful not to run the oil into the starter motor.

Use only a drop or two of very light machine oil (like sewing machine oil) to finish the job.

Any good auto starter shop can rebuild your starter for half the cost of new. Most metropolitan areas have a shop nearby.

Well I took in my starter to get it rebuilt and they said that someone had took out the original bolt and rigged in a weak spring with a new bolt. Also the lug nut under the spring had also came loose and they recommend me to get a new starter. So I bought a brand new starter for 220$ and 4 new spark plug wires for 60$. By the time I put everything back it was dark so I didn't have the chance to crank it up.

Another thing I notice is that 2 cycle oil is leaking from my carburetor. Is that normal and is it just unburned oil? Thanks guys for the quick reply.
