    Default 1976 Evinrude 9.9 water pump impeller

    I got the bolts out of the lower end, it dropped about 2 inches, I think I need to undo the gear selector, How do I do that? I can't see where to unhook it so I can drop the lower end and change the impeller. Anyone, Anyone!

    Look in the gap where the gearcase dropped down. You will see the brass shift rod connector with 2 hex head screws in it. Remove the lower screw and the shift rod will be free to come down..
