    Default 1976 Evinrude 20HP tiller - WOT?

.... anyone know the WOT range for this engine? I'll throw a tach on tomorrow...sure sounds like a low revver...

Clymer manual denies the existence of a 20HP in 1976 as do various other places like BRP parts site....
It's basically a detuned 25HP I guess, and musta been made in limited numbers... - the carb is labelled "20".

Clymer has test tank rpms for a 1973 20HP, are these WOT speeds? no range given just a sort of "dyno target" I guess using the test wheel as exact load. I suppose 300 rpm or so either side of that number would be ok?
    tks.

Interesting but that is neither a Johnson or Evinrude # listed. I don't doubt you. It would not be beyond OMC to make special motors for differant markets.

The early 20 and 25 hp were 18's that were being pushed to the limits and it affected their longevity due to extra high revs.

Yeah, this one looks just like an 18, but it's only revving about 3900 rpm with a 10P prop and my load is very light- I guess it's tune up time...
The carb linkage has another mm or so it could open, but I'll tune it up instead of just adjusting linkage. Well,...Maybe I'll try it, and mark where it was...
It had a lean sneeze, that seems to have gone away after a tank of fuel and idle mix setting a bit richer. I ordered a carb kit.
It's pushing my inflatable about 26mph, when my 9.8 merc can push it 21....so obviously there's some more in her.

With a model number such as 205B63B, and I assume you are sure of the number, I'd strongly suspect that it is a 1975 20hp Evinrude manufactured in Belgium.

Gives you something to go on.

26 MPH may be about all you get. It takes allot of HP to get the speed increase you saw. Plus, you have a little more weight.

Those engines did not have the most efficeint lower unit

If it tach's out to between 4500 and 5000, I'd leave it alone..
