I have a 73 Evinrude 25 hp and one of the spark plugs was sleeved. Well, when changing the spark plugs, the sleeve backed out onto the spark plug. Anyone know where I can get a new head for this motor and/or a solution to repair this? Thanks everyone.
Sure take the insert off of the plug and put some loctite on the outside threads and put it back in the head.Don't get none on the threads that the plug contacts just on the threads that contacts the head.I have one that has been fixed like this for about three years now.
I have tried to get the sleeve off the spark plg and it is on there really tight. So thight, that is will not even budge. ANy suggestions for getting that sleeve off? Thanks for your help, it is certainly appreciated.
Clean the outside surface of the insert and the inside threads in the head, apply high-tempurature permanant strenght loctite to the head threads and re-insert the plug and torque it to specs. 24hrs later, remove the sparkplug. If the sleeve doesn't come out with it that time, it never will again. That's if the threads on the sleeve aren't too screwed up now.Good luck!
