Re: 1973 50hp evinrude leaking oil and water from pinhole
Hmm looks odd. Not supposed to be a hole there I would think. Especially if oil is leaking out, must be drilled/open tot he gear oil? But then again, i'm no expert on those models but it doesnt look right.
Re: 1973 50hp evinrude leaking oil and water from pinhole
i am not sure but i have a 79 35hp and it has a hole fairly close to the same spot and mine has been leaking a little oil and water from there but i am still in the process of learning what is what on my motor

Re: 1973 50hp evinrude leaking oil and water from pinhole
i know it is supposed to be there, just wondering what it bleeds. like maybe left over water that hasn't hit the impeller yet, and should there be oil mixed in with it. it seems first came some water when i tilted the motor out of the barrell, then some oil as it got higher, also when i moved it side to side more came out as well
Re: 1973 50hp evinrude leaking oil and water from pinhole
You said the magic word--barrel. Barrels collect all the oil and goo from the exhaust and recirculate it through the cooling system. So when the cooling system drains, out comes all the recycled goo.
Check your gear oil and if OK, get a good night's sleep and find something else to worry about.
