Model # 100293R, the motor is intact, but everything else is in a box and not sure I have it all. I don`t know if it will run. I have a manual. Where do I start?

I would get the starter working then do a compression check before going any further..

Do I have to use a deep cycle battery or can I use a good car battery? Can I bypass key, because the control box is mt, just the cover. I have box with parts, the key switch is in box.
Just for a compression check any 12V battery will do. Since this is all temporary you can jump the battery straight to the starter.

Thanks, I will.
Compresion in #3 is 105, 115 in 1,2,& 3.
Also, I do not have any parts for the push button shifter, I have the box and face plate. Am I at a stand still until I do?
That 72 100 was a solid engine when it first came out. It shares the small blore block with the 85 hp that year. Your 72 model is the last year for the electric shift lower units. As such, you will have to repair/reassemble the control box you have or find a similar used one somewhere in order to run the engine. Many of these electronic shifter parts are hard to come by. The factory parts list and exploded diagram for your engine and control box is found on the Bombardier parts catalog website: epc.brp.com. These boxes are getting rare-though they are occasionally sold used on the web. If you look, you will probably find a good used one. Some marine salvage yards may also have them available for sale. When working on this engine, an original factory manual is the most helpful: contact Ken Cook Co., in Milwaukee, or they are on the web.
I do have a manual and it is very helpful as is the help I am getting here.
Thanks to all
