1969 Johnson 6 horse, no start, recoil starter reinstall

Have an old Fisherman that a buddy gave me. We got it going with a new fuel pump, but would only run with choke on. I took carb apart (looked clean) and installed a carb kit. Now it won't start at all, so I have to take the carb back off and inspect.

Other problem I have is I had to take the starter off to be able to get the carb off, and now I have no idea how to reinstall the starter. I'm pretty mechanically inclined but the spring popped and everything flew apart. Anywhere that has pics/ detailed instructions of how it goes back together?
