I have a 1969 85hp evinrude outboard motor.(model#85993b)I do possess a clymers manual for the motor. Currently, I've been trying to get it running and haven't had any luck! Last year, I had the following parts replaced:impeller, amplifier, coil, fuel pump, plugs, starter solenoid, battery, & points. I also had a compression check done and all was well. After all this, it ran well. This year, I got it out in April and it fired right up, no problems! As I mentioned previously, now it won't run! I've changed out the gas, pulled the plugs(soaked) and dried them off. I have pulled them several times just to find them soaked again during my attempts to get it started. It will run anywhere from 2 to 4 seconds and die. I haven't checked to see if I am getting any spark yet! I assume I must be getting something in the way of a spark if it will run in short intervals. It has backfired a few times and the flywheel seemed to run in reverse for a second as well, but not all the time. If anybody has any suggestions it would be very much appreciated!pjw
pjwFirst welcome to Iboats. If the plugs are verry wet (with fuel) the float/s in the carb/s may have stuck or sunk. does it smeel of fuel? Also many here well want the model number of your engine so they can look it up in their manual/s. You can "edit" your first post in this thread and add it. You will get more responces with it than without. just a thought.
