    Default 1969 55hp evinrude triumph/elec. choke problem

i have this motor.. it has a vaccum choke! inside this rubber cup lid ,has a thin brass or copper, copper i think washer that fits on a nipple of rubber in the center that is drawn inward by an electrical burst from electric choke switch from dash!, i need this small washer or can it be fabricated! if so from what and dia. size! thanx...mark~

FYI, electric shifts will start in forward, so's not to leave one stranded! the way you check if its in nuetral is the prop will spin..freely in nuetral..mark~

I've found it just as easy to use the manual choke. I don't know if my electric one even works, but the motor runs good. I think you ment to say the motor will start in forward. My trany doesn't work so I allways turn around before I start, hopefully I will get that fixed someday.

Thumbs up Re: 1969 55hp evinrude triumph/elec. choke problem

make sure the throttle is pulled back all the way theres a safety point you cant pass with it!, punch forward button it should start and go immediatly,

now as for the fixing the shifting.. it has two sylenoids(sp) in the lower unit... for forward and reverse! they could be good! and the wire pinched which happens alot changing waterpump and cutting the wire, its one or the other! texmill! good luck mark~

Sorry, but you are totally mistaken. You do NOT have a vacuum choke. That vacuum switch on the side is to hold the shift in neutral when you turn the key off. Without it, it will instantly shift to forward when you shut the motor off. It is harmess, but annoying.

Secondly, the prop will NOT go in neutral without the motor running. It is shifted by a hydraulic pump in the lower unit. Not running, the pump isn't pumping and it won't shift out of forward. It is always in forward when not running.
