hello ev1 i have a evinrude 9.5 hp short shaft and need to replace the water pump impeller and need help getting the lower unit apart i removed all four bolts and can get it to come apart about an inch maybe lil more what is holding it? am i missing something? thanks ahead of time....
Welcome to Iboats, skinner766!If you look in the gap you opened up, you should see half of the shift rod coupler. Completely remove one bolt from it, and the entire lower unit should come off. When reassembling, completely insert the shift rod into the coupling and then re-install the bolt. It helps if something (or one) can hold the l/u while you do this. Here's the part where I ought to do the custom admonishing for attempting to repair your outboard without a manual. Instead, I'll tell you that the factory manual is by far the best. That sometimes they turn up on ebay cheap and can be found with the following search terms:(evinrude, johnson) manual 1968 (9.5, 9.5hp)That reprints can be purchased for the princely sum of $40 from kencook.com, theoutboardwizard.bizhosting.com, marineengine.com, and maxrules.com. And also that if you need to save a bit, you can often borrow an aftermarket manual from the local library. If you do elect to purchase the factory service manual, don't bother with the parts manual.
