Default 1968 65HP Evinrude, Wiring Diagram Needed!!!

I'm trying to locate a wiring diagram for a 1968 65HP Evinrude.Model # is 65853BThe problem is that at one time someone removed the outboard to rebuild it, now i have to deal with a bunch of wires hanging down at the motor and all the wires being off at the ignition switch from the last guy that tried to figure out the right combination. So, i need a diagram showing the wiring on the motor, and the connections between the motor and the ignition switch.Anyone got a manual they scan the page/pages i need? I asked a local dealer and they told me they could order a service manual, that was six weeks ago, and this project really needs to get down the road. The motor doesn't run, but that's because nothing is hooked up at this time. Otherwise it was rebuild, has good compression, nice and clean, etc. I just need to get the electrical under control. I spent hours upon hours on the web trying to find any wiring information for this motor and came up empty handed. I'm out of patience, out of time, and out of money. The only thing that i have been able to figure out is the Green at the ignition switch is battery, the red/white is choke, the gray i believe is tach but its not hooked up anywhere at the motor, and the other wires left at the switch, white and red, are unknown because they are not connected to anything on the motor, just hanging there. And then the wiring on the motor, ugh, everything is disconnected and hanging loose. About the only thing i have been able to piece together is the battery cable to the top of the starter solenoid, the cable from the solenoid to starter on the bottom. There is two white wires there that i assume go to the other two terminals on the starter solenoid but i have no idea which to which. And as i said, everything else on the motor is still a mystery. So a schematic or diagram and i'm set, just nobody has it.

Your best bet is to get a Service Manual, kb. You will need it for other things as well. You can get an aftermarket manual here: http://www.boatmotors.com/manuals.html Or a reprint of an OEM Manual from several places, including kencook.com.Please don't ask members to break copyright law by uploading you a scan.Good luck.

You'll still need the manual. Do you have a library card? I don't know where you are in Minnesota, but the libraries in Saint Paul have outboard repair manuals, complete with wiring diagrams.Sometimes, the library works better than the internet, and it's free. Even if your local library doesn't have the manual, they can get it for you. Then you can borrow it and get your outboard running.I know it's frustrating, but the satisfaction that comes from getting the thing running will more than cover it.

Sure...go ahead and laugh at my old aluminum boat. It's paid for!

I'm down in Southwest Minnesota.I tried the library today, they looked at me like i was a terrorist or some weirdo asking for a service manual. The librarian said she has never had anyone ask for "such a thing" and that i would have to pay a fee for her to get it for me to check out because they have to pay to request it from a regional library or something like that.Oh well! I found a boat for sale locally that has the same motor, going to run by there tomorrow and ask if i can peek at the wiring.I'm flat broke...If not, then i will let it sit and rot till next year, thats how i feel about it right now!

I have one black wire, the tach ground i believe. A gray which is the tach wire, only know that because its still connected to the tach. A red/white for choke, a red for ignition, and a white which i assume goes to the starter relay, and a heavy guage green which is battery to the switch, only know that because it was labeled as battery on the fuse holder. That's all the wires i have from the motor to the switch. Sounds easy enough eh? But all the wiring on the motor itself is hanging down, there is yellows, browns, blues, at least 4 whites, a purple, an orange... Etc.... The wire wrapping was removed by the previous owner for some reason when the stripped the motor down to rebuild it.Nothing is labeled, most of the wires have bare ends or the crimp that goes in the connector, but the connector shells are missing... What a friggin mess!Like i said, no more money to work on it this year, so if i can't find free info it sits till next year.

Wrong hobby to have then. Prices are at least doubled to put the word marine on it. Maybe go to a shop and get a bit of info. I knowthe shop wherei live answers question and in return i buy little $30 plastic pieces from them. They still make out and only share a bit of knowledge.

I'd sorely like to find this wiring diagram online as I am in a similar position! Anyone have any idea where this might be found? We have JUST bought this motor and it is a long weekend here-- no libraries open till Tuesday! Our main difficulty at the moment is this motor will not create spark. Will look at other postings on this matter, but we are still wanting to locate a wiring diagram TODAY so I can work on it while I have time off work!

Start a new thread for your question, please. Tacking it on a four-year-old thread isn't going to get you any help.

Bottom line is that the wiring diagram is in the service manual. You need one, in any case, to properly work on your outboard.

Sure...go ahead and laugh at my old aluminum boat. It's paid for!
