Hello,
I just purchased a new boat with this motor on it. It has sat for 10 years and I would like to replace the impeller. I am having a hard time locating a manual. It is a mechanical shift unit. Can anyone help me with the removal instrucitons for this motor?
If your motor has been untouched in 10 years, the first bit of advice would be to work slowly and "tease" the bolts out. There should be six bolts holding the lower unit to the exhaust housing and these need to come out. There should be a small access cover on the exhaust housing held on by two screws just a few inches up from the lower unit joint. Take out those two screws and look inside. If there isn't a small access plate, then shift the motor into forward and the unit should drop about a half inch and you will be looking at the shift rod connection. Take out the lower screw (only) from the connector and don't worry if you drop it (It can't go far). With a little patients, the lower unit will pull down away from the exhaust housing (don't pry on it with a crow bar). Then you will have complete access to the impeller.
I found the access cover i belive. Also there are two set of screws as if the lower unit was divided in two. Should the take the lower or the upper set off?
