I have a 1967 johnson model no. JW22C 3hp that won't start, i took it fishing one day and it ran just fine, then i went to the river and started it and it ran fine for about 50 ft. then it went to sputtering and trying to die, it would only run with the choke open, finally it died and would not start any more. I took the carb off cleaned it out and set it, theres nothing wrong with the carb, still wont start, then took the plugs out, its sparking like crazy. put a new head gasket on and it still won't start, it wont even hit when i put gas in the spark plugs. Can anybody tell me whats going on?
Timing is controlled by mag plate, point gap setting. Unless you have removed the flywheel I doubt your problem is there. What is your compression like?
my fishing buddies came over an looked at an they said it had good compression where the spark plugs are, but it's not pulling the gas through the carb, I will take the carb off tomorrow and check it one more time.
OK I took the carb off and went through it with a fine tooth comb, it's not the carb, there is no suction coming from the motor to pull the gas out of the carb, it seems that there is no gas going through the motor to the plugs, does anybody know why this is happening! thanks castro2007
