Hi all , I just rebuilt just about everything on my 1963 18hp evinrude and now it runs great except for one thing..........at very low rpm it runs a bit rough and every 30 seconds or so it will pop and stall abruptly? the "pop" noise sounds like when you are trying to start a much larger outboard in the morning and it backfires out the exhaust,(know what i mean?). any ideas guys? I rebuilt the carb,coils,points/cond.,head/gasket and water pump.
Welcome Spamreef!Sounds like you may have the low speed needle in a might far causing a lean pop or sneeze. Back it out a 1/4 to 1/2 turn and see if that helps.Did you get the cam and roller set up right? There's a little reference mark on the cam. When this mark lines up with the roller, the throttle plate should just start to open. Check it out.
