Default 1960 johnson 6 hp fuel filter location

Just got 1960 johnson 6 hp already have a 1960 5.5 evinrude almost identical. the 5.5 appears to be a higher end engine though. Cant seem to find fuel filter though. My 5.5 has a glass bowl and element inside. The 6hp has nothing and doesnt appear it ever had provisions for it. Anyone Know compatability off these two. Thanks PS.. sorry rechecked model # its a 1969 6 hp

Basically the only filter on those motors was a screen that was part of the fuel pump assembly. If you remove the center screw on the fuel pump, the plastic inlet should come off revealing the screen/filter. Usually, these screens can be easily cleaned with carb cleaner/ compressed air. If the screen is in really bad shape, replacements are available too.

My 60 fisherman had the original pump with the screen attached to one of the fittings like you said and the glass bowl with filter inside. Unfortunately someone replaced the original pump on my 69 6hp with the aftermarket one - the small square shaped plastic ones. I dont believe they have the screens as the original and the 69 doesnt have a separate filter like the fisherman does

Take a look at #20 below, that is the screen filter.
