1956 johnson 10hp qd17 low idle problems

I got it started today it ran good at a higher rpm when I would to keep it at a low idle it would just die. I was thinking the problem was just the idle setting any input would be greatly appreciated.

You may be able to adjust the low speed mixture needle sometimes if it is way off you may need to remove the knob to turn it far enough to reach the correct setting.Initial setting is 1 1/8 turn out from gently bottomed.Then when warm adjust to the smoothest idle ending slightly toward rich.If the adjustment fails to correct the problem you may have to rebuild the carb with special attention to cleaning.
