A freind bought a 15 hp Johnson at a garage sale......we have been going through it with a new water pump, lower end seals, ect. WE got it running, but it only runs a short time. Started with a new fuel line, then made sure it was getting gas....replaced the fuel filter....still nothing. Would like a diagram of the fuel pump after reading forums, to see if it is together properly. Can anybody help or do I need to spend $25 for the manual and does the manual go into detail because they reccomend replacing and not rebuilding?
This site has a good rebuild instruction and a great deal more. A "must read" IMO. The manual is well worth having but it doesn't give detailed rebuild instruction on the pump. You could try elevating the tank above the engine and feed it intravenously to see if that works. If it does you will need to rebuild the pump. Best of luck. Rick.
thank-you, thank-you....I tore apart the fuel pump step by step and found one gasket and both springs missing.....went to my local marine dealer and found these parts in their left-over parts box for 15 hp johnsons. Paid the dealer $5...and am ready to re-assemble. From the first post time and while waiting....I dissassembled, cleaned and reassembled the carb. (other than varnish it looks good). Am looking forward to going through the fuel pump and will let you know how all turns out.
