I'd appreciate anyone with a general procedure for adjusting the carb pilot screws on my BF50. I've synched the carb's and set the idle speed, and I've set each pilot screw to Honda's 2 1/8 turns (revised from one turn). The engine smooths out nicely if I back the bottom carb screw out another turn or so, but I'd like to know that I'm using the best method for adjusting these screws.
I think you want both carbs with the same exact adjustment. Start out like you have already done (2 1/8 turns back), bring to normal operating temp and at idle speed, turn both in one half turn. Keep doing this until you detect idle speed drop. You can smetimes actually hear a differnt "hiss" sound from the carbs when you are real close to spot on. When you find the amount that starts to decreases idle speed, usually it's 1/4 to 1/2 turn BACK OUT and you are there.
Mess with it but if you find that one carb does not affect idle speed when adjusted as much as the other, one is probably in need of cleaning.
