honda 4 stroke 5 hp outboard

I have a honda 5hp outboard motor that will not get up to speed when I open the throttle and then gets slower and slower as I move along. Is seems like the engine is also getting hotter. Hope someone has any idea what it is.

change the fuel filter and also clean out the carb - sounds a little like fuel starvation or a weak mixture - when was it last serviced?
it may need a new plug - take it out and check the condition - it should look light brown with hardly any carbon or deposits if it is running well.

I have honda 5hp 4 strokes that are used reg. You must use new or less than
30 day old gas or you will have nothing but problems. We go through this all the time. You will need to clean the carb. the small jets clog easily. Hope this helps!!
