Default Head on Nissan 3 1/2 long shaft

When I got the motor two years ago, it would not run. Found head was corroded from cooling water passage blockage and salt build up. Cleaned and trued head, installed new gasket. Motor ran OK for a while (sits on floor in cabin of sailboat except once or twice per year). Would not start today. Spark and fuel were present. Pulled head, just to look. Found corrosion on inside of head (combustion chamber) and built up junk in cooling passage... Plug not rusted, like it was last time. Oh, have installed heili coil around plug cause it came out with threads when I first redid the head.Suspect head is still not flat or has warp?Any way not much meat left for another stab at flattening. Where can I get a new head and gasket? Motor dates to early 90s or late 80s. Not sure and would appreciate way to be sure enough to buy part for it.Thanks Patiece

Patience,I had a Nissan just like yours for a number of years, used just as you are describing. I found that the cooling passages would clog up readily in salt water use and despite cleaning would clog again quickly. Then eventually it would not start. I got tired of messing with it and dumped it. Never did like the lack of a transmission either....Got a Honda 5 LS and never looked back!Jon

I have an 88/89 8hp nissan with simular corrosion problems and starting problems. First thing you need to do is a compression test. This will tell you wether or not your head is true. You should get anywhere between 95+ psi or better. High the psi the better you are. This will start you in the right direction. Since fuel and spark is present, all you need is the heat (compression). Hopefully this will help you some. As far a looking for new parts, go to www.nissanmarine.com and search for dealers in your area. They will be able to help you with parts. Good luck
