Hi, I have a 96 50 h.p. mariner. The motor overheated so I took it out of the water and put the ears on it to flush it out. I thought something might have got in there to block it but everything ran fine, water was comming out of the pee hole fine, but then over heated again. The motor was to hot to touch. Any thoughts

Re: OVERHEATING

When did you last replace the entire water pump? Does your motor have themostats? If so, when were they last replaced? Water coming from the tell tale hole doesn't mean much.

Re: OVERHEATING

The pee hole typically indicates the water pump is working, however water passages could still be stopped up enough to cause overheating. Could be a piece of impeller or just crud. A defective impeller may push enough water to pee but not enough to keep up with cooling.

Check to see if the thermostat is opening. Also does this engine have a poppit valve?
