1982 50hp evinrude Please HELP

which way does the retaining plate position, it has a hole!!! besides the three threaded holes for the bolts that hold bearing carrier. Which position do i put it in, it can be at 12 oclock, 7 oclock, or 5 oclock !!!!! I have been getting different opinions on this!!! No one seems to be sure though!!

I put the hole to the bottom to maybe help it drain more completely.

this is what i was thinking willy,but if it was to bleed off trapped air in carrier it should be at top??? anyone else have any thoughts!!

I looked it up , and answered your other post. Bottom , it is a drain hole not a bleed hole. Prop shaft bearing housing bolts 60-84 inch lbs.<br /> 5 or 7 o'clock your choice it wasn't specified just bottom.<br /><br /> You've been told this by a couple of the other guys , who have been doing this for a good while .
