I recently acquired a 1969 boat and Evinrude 115 hp outboard(115983-03274). I have read lots of threads on this site and others. When I got the motor, I also got alot of extra electrical parts. It appears that the original amplifier has been removed, and OMC amp 389550 installed. I have 2 of these amps, and what I think is original amp. I need to know if the new amp will work on this motor. Great site by the way. I have a picture of what I think is the original amp along side one of the newer amps, I can email, jif necessary. I will be going through this motor, and lower unit when I get my manual, so I am sure I will have additional questions. Thanks In advance for your input and advise.

Hi GA....been looking through my program for the 389550 and can't locate it...might be earlier that 68'. Your engine original amp PN was 383298 but is superceded by PN 398362.

The amp with the PN 389550 is superceded by PN 397123.

Basically....I don't think the 389550 will work. I don't know exactly what the outputs are or even if it's just a change in wiring scheme. Can't tell you for sure.

Re: 1969 115 amplifier options

I did a little poking around yesterday, and made the following observations, the wiring is suspect, I have 2 red wires coming from the always hot side of the starter solenoid, that go no where, I taped them up, but have not got my manual to tell if they are supposed to go anywhere. With the key on, I have good 12.75 volts at the purple wire on the amp, however, the blue and grey wires, both have .001 resistance to ground. I assume this is correct. I also cannot get it out of forward gear. I have verified that the selectric switch is working. However, when the neutral button is pushed, the green wire only has 10.4 volts, likewise in reverse, both green and dark color wire have 10.4 volts. Is this enough voltage to open the valves?

Re: 1969 115 amplifier options

OK, got my manual yesterday, and the previous owner had all sorts of wires misconnected, but was probably trying to make amplifier 389550 work on this motor. The correct amp is 398362, but is there anyway to make amp 389550 work, or are the differences in the distributor going to make this a moot point. If this is not going to work, how can I test the amp off the motor, so I can sell/trade it if it is good.
Thanks
