Which is better,60 or 90 degree???

I have a Johnson 90hp, 1999 Model # J90PLEEB; Ser# 04671325. I need to clean and perhaps put kits in the carbs. Is there a difference in the carbs between the 60 and the 90 degree and How can I know whick engine I have ????<br />Thanks,<br />Paul

Hmm....your question isn't clear. There is only one carburetor kit for your model Johnson. It's original equipment part number 0438996. <br /><br />You can get the kit at any OMC dealer. It includes all the parts you need, and doesn't cost a fortune.<br /><br />If you're going to work on the carbs, you need it. Don't even start without the kit.

Many thanks for the quick reply regarding the carb kit for the 90 hp Johnson. Any idea which is better... the 60 or 90 degree engine?? Thanks Paul

I can't answer that, to tell you the truth. Neither is an engine I have owned. But that carb kit is the proper one, according to the diagram at ishopmarine.com.

a 90* motor has the piston V at 90* and the 60* motor has them at 60*. Which is better I don't know.

people i hear say the 60 is better.<br /><br />mathematically it SHOULD be. its a tighter degree " V " in the block. faster revs. and it has an optical ignition system.<br /><br />if i had the choice between the two, id choose the 60 degree

If it's anything like a bike motor, the 60 degree will be the best. There are some 90's around for bikes, but the 60's seem to be far better for HP and reliability. Of course nothing beats an American Vtwin for sound ;)
