i have a chance to by a 1994 roughneck by omc with a 88 spl evinrude..<br /><br />first question-had did they come up with 88hp.<br /><br />second question-what does the spl mean...<br /><br />third question-this boat is in great shape..has a great trailer...is 4500.00 too much...

The 88 is the same as the 90hp. It was an economy no-frills motor. You had to mix gas and oil, there was a minimal charging system, no zinc anodes, and on the early ones, power trim was optional.<br /><br />Motors ending in " 8 " were OMC's value line;<br />28, 48, 88, and the exception to the rule was the 112.

cost depends, have a look around and compare it with other boats on the market that are similar.<br />Further, what is your boating background? how are you sure that everything is in great shape? It may have been prettied up to make it sell for more than what it is really worth. Don't rush into this, be sure of everything, if you can't be sure yourself, find a marine mechanic to look over it for you.

The roughnecks are good boats. I doubt that you could go wrong with that combo, if the price is right and it's a clean boat.. What model/size is the boat and is the motor the same year as the boat? The motor alone is worth about $2000-2500(At least where I live) if in good shape and it is a 94' model... Boat and the trailer have to be worth at least $2000, but I would offer $3900 and see what happens...

the boat is owned by my next door neighbor..got<br />all the paper work...been garage kept...has not<br />been used 50 hours in the last 6 years..<br /><br />has power trim...he paid 12,000.00 on 5/05/94
